Project History: Architectural survey in historic city centre for planning application
Stride Treglown architects commissioned C A Design Services to undertake a HD 3d laser architectural survey at Gentleman’s Walk in Norwich’s historic city centre.
The survey was required as part of a planning application for a change of use at Numbers 13 – 14 Gentleman’s Walk, Norwich, NR2 1NA. The proposal was to convert the first three floors and add a new fourth floor development to create nine new dwellings (Class C3) with associated external alterations and minor ground floor alterations to the retained retail unit.
Our Approach: Using laser scanning technology to capture accurate detail for 3D Architectural model
Our laser scanning and levels survey traversed the entire block around Gentleman’s Walk, London Street, Castle Street and Davey’s Place; an area of approx. 63,000 square foot / 5,850 sq m. Our surveyors also took roof top scans and traditional traverses using Total Stations and GPS to establish accurate levels across the site and of the adjacent buildings.
From this information our surveyors prepared an accurate detailed 3D architectural model of the entire area potentially affected by the proposed development. The architects’ original model was then imported into the main file and federated into the new architectural model confirming its accuracy. It was then re-delivered to Stride Treglown ready for the detailed design process to commence.
High quality 3D architectural model delivered
“CA Design Services provided a fast and efficient service delivering an accurate measured survey and high quality 3D architectural model. The detailed 3D model of Gentleman’s Walk that they provided allowed us to prepare and present a scheme design which was sensitive to the existing architecture of the conservation area in Norwich City Centre. We will definitely use C A Design Services again on future projects”
